Newport Beach CERT Volunteers,

On behalf of the entire Newport Beach Fire Department, we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers for everything they contributed to assist the city in 2016.  Last week, we held the 9th annual State of CERT awards banquet to recognize all of our CERT volunteer efforts.  In 2016, Newport Beach CERT volunteers donated over 10,300 volunteer hours and have contributed over 61,000 volunteer hours since the fire department started to keep track in 2011.  Special recognition goes to the following who were recognized for their contributions that went above and beyond in 2016:

CERT Neighborhood of the Year- Peninsula Point CERT

CERT Instructor of the Year- Raymi Wun, Life Safety Specialist

Spirit of CERT Award- Rick Riley (Tesoro)

CERT Volunteer of the Year- Tom Callister (Irvine Terrace)

The Fire Department will host two CERT classes this Spring: A Thursday day class that starts on March 2 and a all-day Saturday class that starts on March 4.  Anyone interested in the CERT program or would like to attend one of the spring 2017 CERT programs, email or call (949) 644-3112. 

 

CERT American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid class

The fire department is hosting an American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid class on Saturday, February 11 from 8:30 am-5:00 pm at fire station #7. The class information is listed below. The CPR class is open to all Newport Beach CERT volunteers but space in the class is limited to the first 20 participants to register.

DATE: Saturday, February 11

TIME: 8:30 am-5:00 pm

PLACE: Newport Beach Fire Station #7 (20401 Acacia, Newport Beach)

COST: $40 per person, please bring checks payable to the City of Newport Beach to the class

 

CERT "All Hands" meeting

The first quarterly CERT "All Hands" meeting of 2017 will be held on Wednesday, February 15th at 6:30 pm at the Newport Beach Central library Friends Room.  The meeting information is listed below.  The meeting will include a presentation from Newport Beach Acting Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Boyles on the fire department's organizational structure and operational model.  All Newport Beach CERT volunteers are encouraged to attend the meeting.  You do not need to RSVP to attend.

CERT Communicators classes

If you are interested in becoming a CERT Communicator or are an existing CERT Communicator, there are two CERT Communicators classes scheduled: Monday, March 13 and Wednesday, April 12, both at 6:30 pm at the Newport Beach Central Library Friends Room. The classes will be taught by NBPD RACES Volunteers and will cover HAM radio basics, net protocol, and assist with radio programming and usage. The April 12th class will focus on radio communications for the 4th Annual Neighborhood drill on April 29th. You do not need your HAM license to attend either class, both classes are open to any CERT volunteer interested in radio communications. The information for both classes is listed below. You do not need to register to attend either class.
