Newport Beach CERT volunteers,

Thank you to the over 140 CERT volunteers that participated in the first two mandatory CERT recertification classes.  As a reminder, all CERT volunteers that would like to remain active CERT volunteers must attend one of the five remaining recertification classes.  Please make sure to register for whatever recertification class you would like to attend at least one week prior to the scheduled class date.  Listed below is information on the upcoming mandatory CERT recertification classes, the 4th annual CERT Neighborhood drill, some upcoming CERT Communicators classes and an updated 2017 CERT Master Calendar.

4th Annual CERT Neighborhood Drill

On Saturday, April 29th the 4th Annual CERT Neighborhood Drill will be held from 9:00 am-11:00 am in neighborhoods throughout Newport Beach.  All Newport Beach CERT volunteers are encouraged to participate.  In preparation for the drill, there will be a Neighborhood Drill meeting on Tuesday, March 28th as well as a follow-up Neighborhood Drill Hotwash meeting on Thursday, May4th.  Information on both meetings is listed below.

CERT Neighborhood Drill Meeting

DATE/TIME: Tuesday, March 28th, 6:30 pm

PLACE: Newport Beach Fire Station #7 (20401 Acacia, Newport Beach)

This meeting is for CERT Neighborhood leaders and for anyone that is interested in organizing their neighborhood or would like to participate with another neighborhood.  This is an informational meeting for any Newport Beach neighborhood that would like to participate in the Neighborhood Drill.  CERT volunteers that would like to participate in the Neighborhood Drill are encouraged, but not required to attend.  Organized CERT neighborhoods that plan to participate are encouraged to have at least one neighborhood representative attend.  Due to space considerations at fire station #7, all interested CERT volunteers must register by emailing nbcert@nbfd.net to attend this meeting. 

CERT Neighborhood Drill Hotwash meeting

DATE/TIME: Thursday, May 4th, 6:30 pm

PLACE: Newport Beach Civic Center Community Room

The Hotwash meeting is open to any CERT volunteer that participated in the Neighborhood Drill.  The Hotwash meeting will review the drill and go over what worked well and what did not.  No RSVP is required for this meeting.

 

CERT Communicators classes

If you are interested in becoming a CERT Communicator or are an existing CERT Communicator, there are two CERT Communicators classes scheduled: Monday, March 13 and Wednesday, April 12, both at 6:30 pm at the Newport Beach Central Library Friends Room. The classes will be taught by NBPD RACES Volunteers and will cover HAM radio basics, net protocol, and assist with radio programming and usage. The April 12th class will focus on radio communications for the 4th Annual Neighborhood drill on April 29th. You do not need your HAM license to attend either class, both classes are open to any CERT volunteer interested in radio communications. The information for both classes is listed below. You do not need to register to attend either class.

CERT Communicators Radio Training Classes

DATES: Monday, March 13 and Wednesday, April 12

TIME: 6:30 pm

PLACE: Newport Beach Central Library Friends Room

 

CERT Mandatory Recertification classes

The remaining five mandatory CERT recertification classes are listed below:

Class #3: Wednesday, March 15th, 1:00-3:00 pm at the Newport Beach Central Library Friends Room

Class #4: Wednesday, May 17th, 6:30-8:30 pm at Newport Beach Fire Station #7 Training Room

Class #5: Wednesday, June 7, 10:00 am-noon at Newport Beach Fire Station #7 Training Room

Class #6: Thursday, October 26, 1:00-3:00 pm at Newport Beach Fire Station #7 Training Room

Class #7: Monday, November 13, 6:30-8:30 pm at Newport Beach Fire Station #7 Training Room (Final class offered)

The classes listed above will be the only remaining CERT recertification classes offered in 2017. All Newport Beach CERT volunteers that would like to remain active with the CERT program are required to attend one of the recertification classes listed above.
