George Murdoch became the municipal operations co-director in July 2015, having previously served the City of Newport Beach in various positions of the Utilities Division. George started his career with the City in 1980. 

George oversees the operations of the City's water, wastewater, storm drains, streetlights, oil well operations, street sweeping, tide valves and graffiti removal. Along with overseeing the day-to-day operations, his key goals are to assure a safe, reliable source of water for drinking and fire suppression, maintain bay and ocean water quality through proper wastewater operations, maintain storm drain and tide systems to minimize property damage and assure 24-hour emergency response of utility services. 

George is certified by the State Water Resources Control Board as a Grade V Water Distribution Operator and a Grade II Water Treatment Operator and is certified by the American Water Works Association as a Grade III Water Distribution Operator. George is a member of the American Water Works Association, the Orange County Water Association and the California Water Environment Association. He represents the City at the Association of California Water Agencies and participates in the Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Producers Group and the Municipal Water District of Orange County’s Water Managers Group.
