Business Climate

The Newport Beach Business Community

Newport Beach is known for its mild Pacific coastal climate, the largest recreational harbor on the west coast, great beaches, two public piers, award-winning restaurants, first class hotels, excellent shopping, corporate offices, and an exceptional quality of life.  Newport Beach is adjacent to Orange County's John Wayne Airport, served by most major carriers, and the University of California at Irvine, for access to technology and well educated employees.  The City has a diversified and financially solid local economy.  Newport Beach is a popular destination for business and leisure travelers alike.

City government is well managed, fiscally sound, and fully capable of weathering the up and downs of the economy without sacrificing services.  City Hall strives to be business-friendly while preserving those qualities that bring people to Newport Beach.  "The 14th Annual Cost of Doing Business Survey", from the Rose Institute of State & Local Government at Claremont McKenna College and Kosmont Companies in Los Angeles, ranked Newport Beach as a "low cost" business locale vis a vis permit fees in December 2008.  Newport Beach is the only coastal Orange County city to be so ranked.

Newport Beach businesses have strong commitments to their neighborhoods and an equally strong self-help ethic, with three historic shopping villages and two of the business sectors having formed Business Improvement Districts (BID's) to market and promote themselves.  For more information on the City's BID's, please see their respective pages on this website.  The City of Newport Beach does not have a Redevelopment Agency.

Newport Beach is also home to a number of national, regional, and local events of note:
