Voting FAQs

Registering to vote takes just a few minutes and allows you to participate in one of the most important rights we have - exercising our voice. Make sure you're heard and register today!

Even if you cannot make it to the polls on Election Day, you may still be able to vote by using a vote-by-mail ballot.  Any registered voter is eligible to vote by mail, but you must request a vote-by-mail ballot application no later than seven days prior to the election.

Applications may be obtained from the Newport Beach City Clerk’s Office at (949) 644-3005 or the Orange County Registrar of Voter’s Office at (714) 567-7600. You can also fill out the application via the County of Orange’s web site (www.ocvote.com).

If your application is approved, you will receive a ballot in the mail. The completed ballot must be received at the Orange County Registrar of Voter’s Office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted. You can also mail it to the Registrar of Voter's office or return it to any polling location on Election Day.

Applications are only approved for vote-by-mail voting for the current election period. However, voters can request permanent vote-by-mail status. If you are approved for this status, you must vote in all primary and general elections held in your area. Failure to do so relinquishes permanent vote-by-mail status.
