Department Overview:  

The Public Works Department is responsible for managing a comprehensive and ambitious improvement program designed to meet the current and future needs of the community and to protect the City's physical and natural assets.  Capital projects include improvements to the City's roads, intersections, bridges, sidewalks, storm drains, traffic signals, water quality and environmental features, piers, water and sewer systems, streetlighting, public buildings and parks.  In September 2010, the divisions of Harbor Resources and Water Quality & Conservation were added to the Public Works Department to improve the City's efficiency in bay dredging and environmental and water concerns.

Another core service area focuses on the use of engineering expertise to solve problems, promote a safe and efficient transportation system, and serving as a liaison between homeowners and utility companies for processing utility underground assessment districts.  Public Works adds quality and safety to our lives through the use of engineered controls and measures such as traffic signals, signage, and the maintenance of streets.

Public Works also protects public property from unpermitted encroachments, ensures the safety of utility company activities, private construction and special events in the public right-of-way, and reviews plans for residential and commercial development as they relate to the public right-of-way.

Bay Avenue Street Closures Beginning April 6
Bay Avenue from 7th to 8th Street, Medina Way to Coronado Street and Cypress Street to Adams Street will be closed for pavement reconstruction. One lane will reopen to traffic after 5PM each day.
Ocean Boulevard Closure from Jasmine to Iris Avenue April 6-12
Crews will be working on Ocean Boulevard from Jasmine to Iris Avenue from April 6-12. A full street closure is required for this work.
Jamboree Road at Coast Hwy. Bike Lane and Shoulder Closure April 6-10
The southbound bike lane and shoulder will be closed at Jamboree and Coast Hwy daily from 9AM-3PM through April 10. Please exercise caution when traveling in the area.
Ocean Boulevard Closure from Marguerite to Jasmine Avenue March 30- April 5
Crews will be working on Ocean Boulevard from Marguerite to Jasmine Avenue March 30 - April 5. A full street closure is required for this work. Access to the CdM Beach parking lot from Jasmine Avenue is temporarily allowed.
UPDATED INFORMATION: Bay Avenue Street Work Beginning March 23
Please be cautious of posted "No Parking" signs in areas that crews are working.
