E-waste Collection Event This Saturday
Posted Date: 2/5/2010
The City of Newport Beach and Goodwill of Orange County will host a free, e-waste collection event on Saturday, February 6, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mariners Elementary School, 2100 Mariners Drive, Newport Beach. Come out and properly dispose of old televisions and other electronics this Saturday and help keep our neighborhoods and water supplies clean and safe for everyone.

E-waste consists of working and non-working personal computers, laptops, cell phones, telephones, fax machines, computer peripherals (such as monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, and cables), consumer electronics (including radios, tape players, VCRs, stereo equipment, and PDAs), and televisions of any size. In the past year, Newport Beach residents have donated over 200,000 lbs. of e-waste!

It is illegal for Californians to dispose of e-waste in their weekly trash collection because e-waste can contain toxic substances, such as lead and mercury, which can pollute ground water and make it unsafe to drink.

The City of Newport Beach is proud to partner with Goodwill of Orange County to provide environmentally friendly solutions to divert e-waste from landfills, but also to help meet the mission of Goodwill of Orange County of assisting individuals with disabilities obtain productive and valuable training and employment. As a state-certified collector, Goodwill of Orange County ensures that all items collected will be recycled using industry-best practices and that all sensitive material is destroyed.
