Upcoming CERT events and classes

Newport Beach CERT volunteers,
Listed below are some of the important upcoming events and classes for Newport Beach CERT volunteers. All CERT volunteers are welcome to attend the 100 Year Centennial Pancake Breakfast and Open house on Saturday, April 21st at Fire Station #7. Please encourage all of your friends and neighbors to attend the Earthquake and Tsunami Awareness Workshop on Thursday, April 26th at the Oasis Senior Center. There are still spaces available for the CERT Mutual Aid class on May 8th and May 10th. Please remember that this class is usually only offered once a year so don’t miss the opportunity to take this class and learn how to be a CERT Mutual Aid responder and be certified to respond when called to other Orange County cities. There is also a Large Animal Response Team class through the City of San Juan Capistrano CERT program on April 28th and April 29th for all horse owners.

Newport Beach Fire Department- 100 Year Centennial Pancake Breakfast and Open House
The Newport Beach Fire Department is celebrating its 100 year centennial this year and to finish off the centennial year is hosting a pancake breakfast and open house at Santa Ana Heights Fire Station #7. Event information is listed below. All CERT volunteers are encouraged to attend and the wear their CERT attire.

Earthquake & Tsunami Awareness Workshop
DATE: Thursday, April 26, 2012
TIME: 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
PLACE: Oasis Senior Center- Evelyn Hart Events Center, (801 Narcissus, Corona del Mar)
The hour-long workshop will teach Newport Beach residents about earthquake and tsunami threats. The workshop will also cover how the City will respond to unexpected earthquake and tsunami threats, as well as what residents can do to prepare themselves for these potentially catastrophic events. The workshop will be taught by Newport Beach Fire Department Emergency Management personnel. The workshop is free of charge and no registration is necessary.

CERT Mutual Aid class- Tuesday, May 8th and Thursday, May 10th
The Newport Beach Fire Department will host a CERT Mutual Aid Program (CMAP) Mutual Aid class on Tuesday, May 8th and Thursday, May 10th from 6:30-9:30 pm. Information on the class is listed below. The class is open to all active Newport Beach CERT graduates that are interested in becoming mutual aid volunteers. During a disaster or emergency, CERT Mutual Aid volunteers could respond to other cities in Orange County when activated.

Large Animal Response Team (LART) CERT training
The City of San Juan Capistrano is hosting a Large Animal Response Team (LART) training for any active CERT volunteer in Orange County. If you own a horse or are interested in how respond in an emergency setting then this program is for you. The trainings are on Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th.
