NEWPORT BEACH CELEBRATES NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK - APRIL 10-16
Newport Beach, CA (March 16, 2011) – The Newport Beach Public Library will celebrate National Library Week, April 10-16, with special programs for children and adults. National Library Week is celebrated across the country each April to honor the contributions of our nation’s libraries, to promote library use and support, and encourage reading.
Highlights of the weeklong celebration include four special family shows: Silly Science Show at the Central Library on Tuesday, April 12 at 4 p.m.; Animal Tales and Musical Scales with Ken Frawley at the Balboa Branch Library on Wednesday, April 13 at 3 p.m.; Wildlife America at Corona del Mar Branch Library on Thursday, April 14 at 4 p.m.; and Puppets and Magic at Crean Mariners Branch Library on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. Storytimes during National Library Week will be hosted by Mayor Michael Henn, City Manager Dave Kiff and City Council Members Nancy Gardner, Ed Selich, Steve Rosansky and Rush Hill. Crean Mariners Branch Library will also drop in crafts and games during the week.
Adult programs planned for the week include the NBPL Foundation’s Distinguished Speakers Lecture Series with bestselling author Dave Eggers on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. A book discussion group, and estate planning workshop will also be held during the weeklong celebration.
