How it all began
A few words from Library Director Cynthia Cowell
"Corona del Mar library's story is one of perseverance and community involvement. Beginning in 1947, library staff sought to provide services to the community despite having no permanent building from which to work. The library’s first home was in a storefront and, subsequently, two different locations in elementary schools. The Friends of the Library group was founded in 1957 with the intent of building a library in Corona del Mar. After two years of intensive fundraising and cooperation with City officials, the Corona del Mar Branch opened in its very own building on July 28th, 1959. With such strong origins in the community the library has continued to be a cherished institution. I’m extremely pleased to be celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year and I look forward to the special events we have planned. I invite everyone in the community to take part in the celebrations and get to know this gem of a library."
