The streets of Newport Beach carry thousands of motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians daily. All users have the same rights and responsibilities when using public streets.Sharrow

As a part of the vision for improving our roads, the City has embarked on the preparation of a sustainable city-wide Bicycle Master Plan.  This document will guide the City by creating a comprehensive bicycle network, defining bicycle improvements, creating education and encouragement programs and identifying funding opportunities for projects.

Bicycle Safety Improvement Fund

City Council established the Bicycle Safety Improvement Fund on October 9, 2012.  Through the generosity of the public, community contributions totaled $77,160.45.  As pledged by the City Council, the City matched each donated dollar 3:1 for an amount of $231,481.35, bringing the total to $308,641.80 

This fund, dedicated to projects aimed at improving bicycle safety within the city, included bicycle facility improvements, education and outreach.  The Bicycle Safety Improvement Fund contributed to the following projects:

Bicycle Master Plan                                            $ 133,598.57

32nd Street Bike Lane Project                             $    6,262.69

Eastbluff Drive / Ford Road Bike Lanes                $  72,605.34

Back Bay Drive Maintenance Project                    $  96,175.20

Total Expenditures:                                           $ 308,641.80
