The Huntington Beach Police Helicopter was on a routine patrol of the Newport Beach ocean waters and saw an estimated eight-foot shark swimming near 36th Street approximately 200-yards off shore. The shark was not acting aggressively, but as a precaution, Newport Beach lifeguards closed ocean access between the Newport Pier and 56th Street.
It was later discovered that the size of the shark was between five and six feet in length. The ocean area was opened the following morning on Wednesday, March 9.
