how to be a people magnet

Have you always wanted to be a charismatic person who attracts people where ever you go? Well, I don’t know about you, but I certainly do! How to Be a People Magnet is a book that will give you tips on how to be that person! Here are a few tips that stood out to me from the book to give you a taste of it!

Tip 1: Shake it!
When you meet someone for the first time, always offer to shake his/her hands first. This signals that you are in control of the conversation. It’s a power move! You also have to shake hands the right way. Slide your fingers in so that the web between your thumb and index finger is touching the web of the person you are shaking. This will make you look confident even when you’re not!

Tip 2: Gaze deeply
Do NOT avoid eye contact. Don’t stare of course, but looking into someone’s eyes shows that you are paying attention. It’ll make you look less nervous. It’ll also make the person you are communicating to feel more special like you value what is coming out of his/her mouth. You may feel like a psycho, but at least you look like a friendly, genuine psycho. No one wants to talk to someone who seems fake.

Tip 3: Put yourself in someone else’s shoe
This basically means to think from someone else’s perspective, but that’s not all. In addition, you also need to put these thoughts into actions. This works extremely well with strangers. For example, if you need to ask for directions from a police officer, think about what the officer is thinking first. Most people will go strolling up to the officer and asking, “Where do you find Wall Street?” However, that is not the best way to ask. Instead, try adding a little something before you ask to show that you care about him/her and believes that he/she is a real person, not just google maps. Say, “Sorry, I know it’s not your job, but where do you find Wall Street?” By thinking from the shoes of the police officer, you’ll be more likely to get better directions.

These three tips are just a few of what How to Be a People Magnet offers. I rate this book a 7/10. Even though it gave some awesome tips, some of the tips were not designed for me. Many were for adults. For example, one is about how to act at a party which is not something I would ever do. This doesn’t mean that the book is completely inapplicable to a teenager like me. How to Be a People Magnet provides simple exercises that can make you more magnetic to people. For instance, you can have one friend try to show an emotion and you can try to guess which emotion she is displaying. Two kindergartners who were trained in this exercise became the most popular kids in their class because they were so sympathetic and willing to listen. Overall though, this book is a great taste for teenagers like me to show us how to communicate and socialize the right way.
