I really enjoyed reading this book. There were a lot of twists and turns in the plot and the cliffhangers really left me wanting to read more. I was engrossed in it from the very beginning. Even the second time that I read it, I felt that it was just as good or better than the first time. I caught certain details that I may have missed and I got a clearer picture of the scenes.

I would recommend this book to any reader who enjoys fantasy and adventure. The fictional creatures and characters that she creates are really cool and make the story more fun to read. For example, nomes are one of the species in her books. They are really interesting creatures because they hardly need any sleep and get their energy from sunlight. Also, they are able to farm a wide variety of amazing foods and drinks consisting of mallowmelt, custard bursts and slumber berry tea. It’s like you enter a whole new world when you read this book. Not only are there a few fictional characters and ideas but almost everything is fiction, which I personally like.

Books like these are a nice break from the real world and help to relax me after a stressful day. One reason why I like these book is the author always keeps me interested in what I am reading. I never get bored with the story. A technique that the author uses in order to get the reader into the book is, she hooks you in for the beginning. You don’t have to read one hundred pages just to get an idea of what the story is about. Another technique that the author uses to keep the reader involved is she adds drama, mystery and action. Often, the main character finds riddles from her creators that give her advice and clues that lead to action and adventures with her friends.

I really enjoy reading Shannon Messenger’s books because she is a great writer and I love her creativity. She has a huge imagination and I love the characters and different creatures that she puts in her books. I feel like almost anyone can read this book, probably ages nine to over one hundred. Sophie (the main character) and her friends are easy to relate to and each have a different personality that is likeable. My favorite character so far is Keefe who is a troublemaker and is always cracking jokes. He is my favorite because I always find myself laughing at him and I feel like he adds some needed humor into the book. He is also my favorite because even though he goes through hardships during book three, he pushes through them and remains strong, always fighting for what he believes is right. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

5 stars!
