Writing Workshop

Newport Beach Public Library launches a series of writing workshops with Newport Beach acclaimed author Anne Cleeland beginning January 31.  The five-part series will cover key elements of writing and publishing a book, with topics such as Creating Memorable Characters, Editing Tips, Writing Mysteries/Romantic Suspense and How to Approach New York Publishers.

Anne Cleeland writes a contemporary Scotland Yard mystery series that is featured in the Amazon top 100 best sellers. She also writes a historical series of stand-alone books set in the Regency period. An attorney by trade, Anne’s been reading mystery and romantic suspense since her Nancy Drew days, and especially loves Agatha Christie and the other Golden Age British mystery writers.  In her popular Acton and Doyle series, two of Scotland Yard’s finest, Detective Sergeant Kathleen Doyle and Chief Inspector Michael Sinclair (Lord Acton), take readers on a captivating journey to solve a chilling string of high profile homicides.  With over a dozen books to her name, Anne will share her knowledge and advice on writing techniques and strategies as well as tips for getting a book published.  The schedule for the workshops is as follows:

January 31--How to Write a Book: A Basic Primer

February 28-- Creating Memorable Characters

March 28--Finding Your Nemo: Editing Tips

April 25--Writing Mysteries/Romantic Suspense

May 30--Query and Pitch: How to Approach New York Publishers

All of the workshops will be held in the Sword Meeting Room at the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Avenue, Newport Beach beginning at 7 p.m.  The workshops are free to the public.  Registration will be limited to 20 participants. Participants must register for each session they wish to attend but do not need to register for all five sessions.
