Newport Beach CERT volunteers,

Listed below are some of the upcoming CERT volunteer opportunities, events and training's.  Also, the 2020 CERT Master Calendar is available for you to view.  Please note that the 2020 CERT Master Calendar only includes the major CERT events, drills and training's and is tentative with new events added as they are scheduled.  If you have anything that you would like to add to the 2020 CERT Master Calendar, please email nbcert@nbfd.net.  

CERT "Drill the Skills"- Saturday, March 28

The spring 2020 CERT programs are set to begin this week.  The first CERT "Drill the Skills" of 2020 is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th at Newport Beach Fire Station #7 (20401 Acacia).  We need active Newport Beach CERT volunteers to assist with registration, logistics, assist at drill stations and to participate with the "neighborhood" teams.  The volunteer assignment is from 8:00 am-1:00 pm.  If you are interested in volunteering for the CERT "Drill the Skills", please register though the CERT on-line volunteer management system.  

CERT American Heart Association CPR class- Tuesday, April 7

The Fire Department will host an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR class on Tuesday, April 7th from 6:00-8:30 pm at the Newport Beach Fire Station #7 training room (20401 Acacia).  The class is open to all active Newport Beach CERT volunteers.  A minimum of 15 participants are required to hold the class with a maximum of 25.  The cost of the class is $40, payable by check to the City of Newport Beach.  Checks will be collected at the class.  Please note that this a a CPR class, no first aid certification.  To register for the class, please log into the CERT on-line volunteer management system.   

CERT "All Hands" meeting- May 19

The next CERT "All Hands" meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19th at 6:00 pm at the Newport Beach Central Library Friends Room.  Please note that the start time for the CERT "All Hands" meetings have moved up to 6:00 pm.  For the May 19th meeting, Claudine Jaenichen from Chapman University and the Design Network for Emergency Management will present on her work surrounding symbols, design and its implementation into public information.  Claudine has been working with the City of Newport Beach Emergency Management on the development of it's tsunami public information brochures and signs as well as a comprehensive City of Newport Beach Emergency Preparedness Guide.  Registration is not required for the CERT "All Hands: meetings, they are open to anyone interested in community preparedness.    

CERT online volunteer management system

If you have not done so yet, please try to log into the CERT on-line Volunteer Management system.  If you need assistance with your user name/password, please email nbcert@nbfd.net.  Please do not create a new user account, all information on the 430 active Newport Beach CERT volunteers has already been entered into the system.  Please use the user name and password that we provided in our annual letter and emails and enter the information as an existing user.  If you are having issues with logging into the new system, please email nbcert@nbfd.net to schedule a time to come to the Newport Beach Civic Center for assistance.  The "one on one" meetings must be scheduled and are available on Monday's and Wednesday's.  Please note that you must schedule your meeting, to schedule email nbcert@nbfd.net, please do not just show up to the Civic Center.  Our goal is to have all 430 active Newport Beach CERT volunteers log into the new system in 2020, so if you are having an issue just schedule an appointment to learn how to log in.

2020 CERT Program Schedules- Spring and Fall

The 2020 CERT program schedules have been finalized and are available on the City of Newport Beach web-site.  For 2020, the fire department is holding four CERT programs.  In spring 2020 there is a Thursday day program and an all-day Saturday program that begin this week and in fall 2020 a Tuesday-Thursday evening program and an all-day Saturday program.  At this time, the spring 2020 Thursday day and Saturday programs both have a few open spaces.  Please encourage your family, friends, neighbors and anyone interested in community preparedness to take one of the 2020 CERT programs.  All new participants can register for any of the four CERT programs through the online CERT volunteer management system.  

Community Preparedness Outreach Presentations

If your home owner's association, business, school or civic group are interested in a fire department presentation or if you are having a CERT neighborhood event that you would like for us to attend please schedule as early as possible for all of 2020. The fire department offers one-hour community preparedness presentations on disaster preparedness, hands-only CPR and how to stop the bleed. A minimum of 15 participants are required.  If your group is interested in a community preparedness presentation please email nbcert@nbfd.net with the date, time, location and the estimated number of participants.  Please provide as much advanced notice as possible.
