Dear Newport Beach Public Library Patron:
With an average of 15,000 visitors a week, the Newport Beach Public Library recognizes the concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak affecting many worldwide, and right here in California.
At the Newport Beach Public Library, we are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for you and your family.
All programs, including story times at Central and the branches are cancelled through the end of March. Staff, with the guidance of City’s Emergency Response team, the California Department of Public Health and the Orange County Health Agency, will re-assess the situation at the end of the month.
We are all also practicing social distancing techniques to reduce the likelihood of transmitting communicable disease. Social distancing involves minimizing exposure to infected individuals by avoiding large public gatherings, adhering to spacing requirements in public areas, and following and encouraging proper personal hygiene practices. In response, the Library will rearrange library furniture and reconfigure or place some public computer terminals out of service.
At Central Library and the branches, our cleaning crews are using heavy-duty disinfectant in areas with high levels of public contact, such as service desks and public computer terminals. The janitorial staff, including the day porters who provide spot cleaning 7 days a week, is also taking measures to ensure that points of frequent contact, such as doorknobs, restroom push plates, and elevator buttons, are being disinfected on a regular basis. Staff has posted fliers as a public reminder, encouraging patrons to be especially vigilant about habits that can minimize the spread of the virus, such as proper hand washing.
We ask that if you are not feeling well, please stay home. Online services are available to you at your convenience through the Library eBranch. Enjoy a movie with Kanopy, listen to an audiobook or read an eBook through OverDrive, enjoy over 2,500 magazines through RBdigital or Flipster, or research an interesting topic with our many databases. Manage your account online – search for items, place holds, renew items– from the comfort of your home or office, 24/7 through any device with Internet access.
