Watch out for COVID-19 scams, frauds and price gouging

Unfortunately, criminals are taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to perpetuate scams, frauds and price gouging. If you suspect this type of activity, or become a victim, please contact the Orange County District Attorney’s office Coronavirus Scam Hotline at 714-834-3482 or email reportascam@da.ocgov.com.

You can also call the Newport Beach Police Department’s non-emergency number at 949-644-3717. For general internet crime prevention tips, visit the FBI’s web site at https://www.fbi.gov/scams-and-safety.

“I encourage everyone to be aware and on the lookout for scams,” said Newport Beach Police Chief Jon Lewis. “Take the time to properly research any organization or individual before giving them financial contributions or personal information. Remember that the Police Department is here for you; don’t hesitate to give us a call if we can help.”
