How to Watch, Participate in City Meetings
The City of Newport Beach has established a technology solution that will enable the public to view and participate in Newport Beach City Council meetings and other select public meetings in real time.
Using a program called WebEx, the City will live stream Council meetings through its website (www.newportbeachca.gov/nbtvlive) and will broadcast the meeting on its cable television channel NBTV. Participants will be seen on screen as they participate in the meeting from their homes or other secure locations. In addition to providing written comments prior to the meeting, members of the public can call in to provide their comments for agenda items in real time. The telephone numbers are listed after agenda item titles on the Council agenda and will appear on viewers’ screens at the appropriate times. Callers will have three minutes to provide comments on an agenda item.
Here’s a summary of how to view and provide comments..
Watching the Meeting
You can watch the meeting in real time via the City’s website or with a slight delay on the City’s government channel, NBTV. NBTV can be found on Spectrum Channel 3 and Cox Channel 852. The City’s web address for the livestream is www.newportbeachca.gov/nbtvlive.
Providing Written Comments Before the Meeting
You can submit your questions and comments in writing for City Council consideration by sending them to the City Clerk at firstname.lastname@example.org. To give the City Council adequate time to review your questions and comments, please submit your written comments by 5 p.m. on the day before the meeting.
Providing Comments Via Telephone During the Meeting
You can participate in this meeting telephonically. If you are watching the meeting on NBTV or via the livestream, phone numbers for the public to call and to comment on specific agenda items will be posted on the screen. The telephone numbers are also listed after agenda item titles on the agenda. Please note: two different phone numbers will be utilized so it is important that you call the phone number that corresponds to the agenda item.
When you call, you will be placed on hold until it is your turn to speak. Please note that only twenty (20) people can remain on hold at a time. If you call in to speak on an item and the line is busy, please call back after a few moments. The City will ensure that it allows enough time per item for everyone to call in to comment.
If you are unable to participate in the meeting via the process set forth above, please contact the City Clerk at (949-644-3005 or email@example.com) and our staff will attempt to accommodate you.
