Newport Beach Residents to Receive Additional Flood Insurance Discounts

Newport Beach has achieved a new milestone in its proactive floodplain management efforts. On October 1, 2024 our Community Rating System classification with FEMA will upgrade from Class 7 to Class 6.

The upgraded class rating translates to an additional 5% reduction in flood insurance premiums for all residents.

This improvement was made possible through a combination of public outreach, higher regulatory standards, open space preservation, and stormwater management. Residents in flood hazard zones have earned a total discount of 20% on their flood insurance. Residents in low risk zones have a total discount of 10% on their flood insurance.

To see if your home or commercial building is in a flood hazard zone, visit this page.

Call your insurance company and check your premiums to find out if you’re receiving your earned discounts on flood insurance.

If you have questions about how floodplain management impacts your planned remodel, addition, or new building, City Staff are available to answer your questions at the Permit Center at City Hall, Bay C, First Floor or by calling 949-644-3200.
