City of Newport Beach Energy Action Plan (EAP)

The goal of the EAP is to provide a roadmap that the City can follow on our path to becoming a more sustainable community and reducing our energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Our long term vision for energy efficiency focuses around the following objectives:

    1. Reduce the City’s carbon footprint and its adverse effect on the environment.
    2. Conserve energy at the local government facilities.
    3. Raise energy conservation awareness in local community and improve the quality of life.

The EAP includes energy audits from the City's major facilities and identifies more energy efficiency opportunities.

Some of the City’s current Energy Efficiency Projects are:

    • Ongoing street light conversions - savings 190,000 kwh/yr
    • Plug-load sensors - saving 42,600 kwh/yr
    • LEED-certified buildings - Civic Center savings estimated at 435,000 kwh/yr
    • Water pumps - VFD's saving 1,800,000 kwh/yr
    • Central Library HVAC - savings TBD
