Monthly Homeless Count
City of Newport Beach staff counts the number of people experiencing street homelessness once a month. The number of people counted may vary due to weather conditions, housing and shelter availability, or financial factors.
PATH, a social services provider, provides street outreach services five days a week throughout Newport Beach. The contractor provides a report to the City of Newport Beach each month that reflects the number outreach contacts PATH staff made during the previous month. The Outreach Contacts total reflects the number of interactions for the specific purpose of reaching out to unsheltered homeless neighbors in a process of building trust and offering support toward the long-term goal of connecting them with emergency shelter, housing, or critical services; and providing urgent, non-facility-based care. This number can be duplicated in any given reporting period.
The Be Well mobile crisis response team operates in Newport Beach under contract 12 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to mental and behavioral health crises. The mobile unit is staffed with mental health specialists and EMTs, and works closely with the City’s police and fire departments.
This past month, Be Well OC has provided the following services to the Newport Beach community:
