Registration FAQs

How do I register?

You can register by fax, in person, by mail or online. We do not have telephone registration. There is a registration form which you can download and fax in to easily register. Click here to go to the registration form. In order to register you need to have the class number and session number (example MP2032). If you leave the session number blank it will delay your registration.

How do I get an Online Account?

Simply fill out the information requested for first time users and submit it. The customers account must be in the name of the credit card holder. Once you have been approved for an account, then you can add family members. Be sure to give us both your home and work phone numbers, especially if you have children. It makes it easier for us to keep you informed about class changes, cancellations and any problems that might arise. Remember that when you apply for an account, we can only respond during business hours. While we will try to expedite your request as soon as possible, if you apply over a weekend, it may not be approved until Monday morning at the earliest.

Where can I find a map?

Click the Parks & Facilities menu tab (left) to be directed to an interactive map of all parks and facilities. Labeled field site maps for common parks are also available here to help you find the exact location of your class.

Why doesn't my registration work on the on line system?

There are several reasons why your efforts to register on our on line system will not work:

• The class is not open for registration at this time. Some classes require special registration data and therefore cannot be accessed in the online system. (i.e. private tennis lessons or the Rose Parade).
• The class has already started and if that is the case you must register in person at the office.
• The class is full and there is no waiting list.
• The system is temporarily unavailable due to other number of users at the same time.
• You have not applied for an account, which requires an e-mail address.
• Your child is too young/old for the class and the system will not accept your registration.

What if I'm not a resident of Newport Beach?

Non-residents are welcome to sign up for any and all classes, however there is a $5 non-resident fee for each class that is priced at $74 or less and $10 for each class that is $75 and over.

What if my child is a little young/old according to the class description?

You must select a class that is within the proper age range of your child.

What happens when it rains and my class is outdoors?

The City will schedule make-ups for class cancellations due to inclement weather whenever possible. Most instructors will call you if the class is canceled in advance due to weather. For classes on sports fields, you're welcome to call our mudline (949-718-1860) for field conditions. This is updated after 2 p.m. Monday-Friday and after 7:30 a.m. Saturday/Sunday.

What is the refund procedure?

In order to request a refund, you must notify the Recreation & Senior Services office prior to the second class meeting. A $10 fee will be charged for all refunds under $74 and $20 for all classes $75 and above. Refunds are only approved if requested before the 2nd class meeting. One-day workshops requires a request within 5 business before the class starts to be issued a refund. A full refund will be issued when classes are cancelled by the instructor or by Recreation Services. Those paying by credit card will have their account credited and those who paid by check must provide a copy of the canceled check (front and back) before the refund can be processed. Cash paying customers will receive a check in the mail within 2-4 weeks.

Can I register at the first class?

No, all registration forms and payment must be received at City Hall or a staffed community center prior to the first class meeting.

What should I bring to the first class?

Always bring a copy of your receipt in case there are roster questions. Also if there is a supply list for the class, you will bring those items.
