11th Annual Disaster Preparedness Expo- Saturday, September 7

Newport Beach CERT Volunteers,

September is National Preparedness Month!  The 2019 theme is "Prepared, Not Scared. Be Ready for Disasters."  As part of National Preparedness Month, the city is hosting the 11th annual Disaster Preparedness Expo next Saturday, September 7th from 11:00 am-2:00 pm at the Newport Beach Civic Center Green.  In addition to the disaster preparedness expo, both fall 2019 CERT programs are scheduled to start in mid-September, our first ever Teen CERT program with Ensign Intermediate in late September, the bi-annual CERT "Drill the Skills" on October 19, an American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid class on October 26th and the last CERT "All Hands" meeting of 2019 on October 29.  Information on all of the upcoming training's, meetings and drills is listed below.  We hope that you all have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend.   CERT Master Calendar 

11th Annual Disaster Preparedness Expo- Saturday, September 7th from 11:00 am-2:00 pm at the Civic Center Green

In conjunction with the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, the fire department is hosting its 11th annual Disaster Preparedness Expo on Saturday, September 7th from 11:00 am-2:00 pm at the Civic Center Green.  We are still in need of CERT volunteers to assist with the event.  Remember that you must register if you would like to volunteer to assist at the expo and all CERT events.  The CERT volunteer shift is from 9:00 am-2:30 pm.  Lunch will be provided for all CERT volunteers.  If you cannot volunteer for the entire shift, please email the times when you would like to volunteer (4 hour minimum shift).  All CERT volunteers, their friends and family are welcome and encouraged to attend the expo, if they are unable to volunteer.  If you would like printed expo flyers or to volunteer for the expo, email  

Fall 2019 CERT Program Schedule

This fall the fire department will hold a Tuesday-Thursday evening program that starts on September 17 and an all-day Saturday program that begins on September 21.  If you would like CERT class postcards to distribute at neighborhood events, please email nbcert@nbfd,net.  Interested participants are encouraged to apply by completing and mailing in a CERT program application to reserve their space.  Also, as a reminder, active Newport Beach CERT volunteers are welcome and encouraged to attend any fall CERT individual classes and the "Drill the Skills" on Saturday, October 19 to review their skills, please email 

CERT American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid class

The fire department scheduled an American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid class for Saturday, October 26 (8:30 am-3:30 pm) at Fire Station #7 training room, exclusively taught by and for our CERT volunteers.  The class requires a minimum of 15 participants for the class to be held and you must register at least 10 days prior to the class.  Please note that due to low enrollment the Saturday, August 3rd class has been cancelled.    The cost to attend the class is $40.  To register for the October 26th CPR/AED and First aid class email

SAVE THE DATE- 12th annual State of CERT Awards Banquet- Wednesday, January 29th

Planning for the 12th annual State of CERT awards banquet has already started. We are looking for 5-10 CERT volunteers that would like to serve as the lead planners for the annual awards banquet.  If planning parties is something that you are good at and you would like to assist with the planning of the annual CERT awards banquet please email   

Community Preparedness Outreach Presentations

If your home owner's association, business, school or civic group are interested in a fire department presentation in 2019 or if you are having a CERT neighborhood event that you would like for us to attend please schedule as early as possible for all of 2019. The fire department offers one hour community preparedness presentations on disaster preparedness, hands-only CPR and how to stop the bleed to Newport Beach home owner's associations, civic groups, businesses and schools. A minimum of 15 participants are required.  If your group is interested in a community preparedness presentation please email with the date, time, location and the estimated number of participants.  Please provide as much advanced notice as possible for dates in late 2019-2020.
