The Red Pyramid is a great start to the trilogy of The Kane Chronicles . In this fast-paced and adventurous book, the protagonists, Sadie Kane and her brother Carter, have been separated by their parents when they were really young. In a freak accident, their mom died. Sadie lives with her grandparents, and Carter travels the world with his father. Not knowing much about each other, their dad urgently picks up both of them and brings them to the British Museum. At the museum their father releases an evil Egyptian god named Set. Sadie and Carter can’t believe what they are seeing. They didn’t even think that real Egyptian gods exist! After this shocking event, they are taken to an ancient Egyptian school of magic, called “The House of Life”. Here, they will learn how to use their magic for good, to help the world. Throughout this story, more quests and adventures bloom as they try to stop this evil Egyptian god, Set, and restore the order during the chaos. And they only have 5 days to do this before the world ends!
In order to complete the real mission, to prevent further chaos, they will have to complete this
first crucial step in their journey. They will meet valuable friends and other Egyptian gods. They
will also learn more about their family’s ancient history, and what their mom actually died for.
Can they stop Set from destroying the world? Will they be able to find out what their hidden past
is?
I recommend this book to teens who love adventure, mythology, and a little bit of romance. I
personally love how a little bit of romance is included within a lot of adventure in this book! The
main characters’, Carter and Sadie Kane, personalities are humorous and sarcastic. They make
humorous and sarcastic remarks in every chapter, making the book very entertaining to read. It
is easy to relate to these characters in your own way. Also, there are many side characters that
make the story more interesting. Bast, the Egyptian goddess, has her own symbol, which is
represented as a cat. Zia, a young magician at the “House of Life”, is sent to train Carter and
Sadie’s magic powers. Lastly, Anubis, the god death, plays a crucial role in helping Carter and
Sadie with their mission. The author, Rick Riordan, does an amazing job of bringing his
characters to life.
The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid , was published in 2010. The author of this book is Rick
Riordan, and he is also the author of Percy Jackson and the Olympians , Heroes of Olympus ,
The Trials of Apollo, and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard . I have personally loved these
series, which are about Greek, Roman, and Norse gods. But, the Kane Chronicles are about
Egyptian gods. This makes his writing so versatile, and so knowledgeable, while still being so
entertaining and funny. I recommend this book, and all of Rick Riordan’s writing, to people who
love Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse Mythology.
I hope that this review is helpful to all readers reading this. Hopefully, you will love this book as
much as I do!
