Newport Beach CERT volunteers,
The Newport Beach Fire Department recently mailed our annual letter to all of our over 500 active CERT volunteers. If you did not receive the annual letter in the mail and feel that you should have please email email@example.com. The annual letter included the first draft of the 2019 CERT calendar as well as the invitation to the 11th annual State of CERT Awards banquet. As we end 2018, please remember to submit all of your CERT volunteer hours prior to the end of the year. If you have problems submitting them on-line, just email firstname.lastname@example.org with your total CERT volunteer hours for all of 2018.
Listed below are some of the upcoming CERT volunteer events and training's. There is also information on the 11th Annual State of CERT awards banquet on January 30, 2019 and the 2019 mandatory CERT re-certification training's.
11th Annual State of CERT Awards Banquet- Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 6:30 pm at the Oasis Senior Center
We are trying a new on-line registration system for the 11th Annual State of CERT Awards banquet. All CERT volunteers and other interested participants are encouraged to register to attend the banquet as soon as possible. If you have problems registering through the registration link and would like to attend, please email email@example.com. The annual banquet is open to all Newport Beach CERT volunteers, their families, friends, neighbors and anyone interested in CERT and community preparedness. This year, we will be celebrating the 20th year of the Newport Beach CERT program.
If you would like to assist with the planning and logistics for the State of CERT banquet, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. We are in need of CERT volunteers that would like to assist with the planning of the event and all aspects of event preparation.
2019 CERT Mandatory Re-Certification dates
In 2017, the Fire Department held mandatory CERT re-certification classes for all Newport Beach CERT volunteers that wanted to remain active with the program. If you received an annual letter in the mail then you are one of those active CERT volunteers. All Newport Beach CERT volunteers that would like to remain active with the program must attend one of the mandatory re-certification classes listed below in 2019. We hope to have an on-line registration system for these classes up prior to the end of the year. So please save the date, we are not limited on the number of CERT volunteers for each class. Please note that CERT volunteers only need to attend one of the classes listed below. If you have any questions about the mandatory CERT re-certification classes, please email email@example.com.

CERT American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid class
The fire department will host an American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid class, one day class in early January 2019. The class is taught entirely by Newport Beach CERT volunteers. The class is open to all Newport Beach CERT volunteers. The cost to attend is $40 and will be collected at the class.
Class - Tuesday, January 8 and Thursday, January 10 (6:00-9:00 pm each evening) at Fire Station #7, note that you must attend both evenings to be certified
To register for this class, email firstname.lastname@example.org. A minimum of 10 participants are needed to hold each class with a maximum of 24.
Orange County CERT Mutual Aid Program County-Wide Exercise
The the Orange County CERT Mutual Aid Program in conjunction with the Orange County Operational Area is holding a UASI sponsored CERT exercise on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Each Orange County CERT program is being allotted with 10 volunteer spots. If you are interested in participating in a county-wide CERT exercise with CERT volunteers from other Orange County CERT programs, please email email@example.com. We will be taking an interest list to see how many Newport Beach CERT volunteers are interested, if we have more than 10 then we will also take a waiting list. Please note that you must be able to participate for the entire day. This is a unique opportunity and all that are interested are encouraged to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Newport Beach CERT volunteers that are currently CMAP certified and those that are interested in getting CMAP certified, the American Red Cross and the Orange County CERT Mutual Aid Program (CMAP) have created a special on-line and in-person training program for CERT volunteers across Orange County to complete the CMAP Mutual Aid requirements. Over the next few months, the Red Cross will be offering several Shelter classes at its Santa Ana headquarters. All Newport Beach CERT volunteers that are interested in either remaining active CMAP certified volunteers or those that would like to be CMAP certified are encouraged to take one of these classes. These classes and the entire process will take some time, please be patient and read the directions carefully. If you are interested in taking any of the upcoming CMAP American Red Cross Shelter classes please read the directions on the attached form.
The spring 2019 and fall 2019 CERT program schedules have been finalized. This spring the fire department will host a Thursday day program that starts on February 7 and an all-day Saturday program that starts on March 2 and this fall the fire department will host a Tuesday-Thursday evening program that starts on September 17 and an all-day Saturday program that begins on September 21. If you would like CERT class postcards for to distribute at neighborhood events, please email nbcert@nbfd,net. Interested participants are encouraged to apply by completing and mailing in a CERT program application to reserve their space.
Community Preparedness Outreach Presentations
If your home owner's association, business, school or civic group are interested in a fire department presentation in 2019 or if you are having a CERT neighborhood event that you would like for us to attend please schedule as early as possible for all of 2019. The fire department offers one hour community preparedness presentations on disaster preparedness, hands-only CPR and how to stop the bleed to Newport Beach home owner's associations, civic groups, businesses and schools. A minimum of 15 participants are required. If your group is interested in a community preparedness presentation please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the date, time, location and the estimated number of participants. Please provide as much advanced notice as possible for dates in 2019.
