Hooky volume 2 by Mìriam Bonastre Tru

Review by Adriana

hooky 2 bk cover

Hooky Book 2, by Mìriam Bonastre Tru is the amazing sequel to Hookey Book 1. This book is a journey of self discovery and figuring out who you can trust. The twins are now 13, almost 14 and they are true witches in hiding. Following the events of the previous book, three months later, the group is hiding out in the woods.Spoiler Alert!: Turns out that both Nico and Monica have the ability to do magic! Nico is a clairvoyant and Monica can cast small spells. *End of Spoiler Alert*: With Damien the new king of witches, the bond between the Wytre family continues to weaken and wither. In this book we get a glimpse of Damien’s childhood, Monica and Dorian’s relationship, and how Dani had been struggling to reject her fate as the queen of witches. The group decides to leave their hiding place and start traveling to find Prince William’s location. Along the way Dani and Monica meet a friendly grandma wolf, who just so happens to help them make more healing potions. But then everyone else catches up and they continue their journey, leaving grandma wolf behind with good spirits. But then… They stumble upon two witches, Alice & Romas, who imprison them in their haunted house. Now this house isn’t just haunted by ghosts or anything like that, it’s haunted by…a dark spirit. While the group is trying to find their way out, Alice & Romas attempt to sell their potions. Luckily for the group they escape, thanks to Dani, and the potion turns out to have some small defects… After escaping this detour they headed for a city in the desert where one of the princes rules. Deciding that they would journey into the desert to follow a dragon, they prepare for the perilous journey and adventure ahead of them.

This time my favorite character in the book is Monica. She had always been there for the team and always wanted to lend a helping hand. But if you’re mean to her or one of her friends- she’s got it out for you! When Dani needs advice, Monica will talk to her and make her feel more confident and comfortable. As well as having a great personality to accompany her spirit, she is the perfect best friend who will always have the best things to say to anyone who’s feeling upset or hurt. I also love her pink hair and her sense of style, everywhere she goes you can expect her to be looking fabulous!

Comparing this book to Book 1 I think that this one has a lot more action and is more climatic. Like the first book , I recommend that ages 10+ read this one as it had some scenes that only older kids would understand. I was actually considering reading this series for school, but I got too excited and started reading it immediately after I purchased it at the bookstore. I don’t know if Míriam has written any other books but if she had I will definitely be checking them out after finishing reading this series. These books are actually based off of a webtoon series so if you want to read it online feel free to! I know that this spooktacular journey will leave readers wanting for more.
