Keeper of the Lost Cities: Stellarlune by Shannon Messenger

Review by Adriana

keeper of the lost cities book cov

Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger is one of my favorite book series of all time. When I say favorite I mean favorite because from the characters, to the setting, and to the plot everything in the series is carefully planned out and written to perfection! (Except the cliffhangers at the end of the books, no one likes those). Now, all Keeper fans have been waiting for a while to get their hands on Stellarlune, because we all wanted to know what happens to Keefe, the Neverseen, and much more. I had pre-ordered book 9 a while ago and when it arrived I couldn’t wait to start reading. As I write this book review, I hope that it will make many young readers interested in starting the series. I will not give away any spoilers to those who have not read it yet, so don’t worry about it. Book 9, is the continuation of the events that happened in 8.5 or Unlocked. We find out where Keefe is hiding, more secrets, and the Neverseen’s next moves. The characters must determine who they can trust, and who will betray them in the end. It starts with Sophie being confronted about the fire she set, and her friends being torn about whether or not they should trust Glimmer. As the book continues, Sophie starts thinking about her relationship with Keefe and Ro, Keefe’s bodyguard, teases her about it. Sophie eventually opens Kenric’s cache and learns the seven secrets hidden within. While everyone works on their assignments, Sophie persists on finding out what or where Elysian is after finding out about it from a forbidden secret. Sadly, the ending of the book is of course a cliffhanger so we won’t know what happens to Ro, Elysian, or Keefe until Book 10. Good news is that Keefe does come back in the end with Sophie and Tam after his whereabouts were discovered using some of Dex’s modified technology. The rest of the book is for you to find out, I don’t want to reveal too much information or else it kills the suspense of it all…

My favorite character is Sophie all the way! She’s strong, courageous, intelligent, and powerful. Even though she sometimes struggles with finding out what it means to be a leader, she always finds her way in the end and grows to become a better leader. Sophie will always and forever be my favorite character. Relating to Sophie, my favorite moment or part of the book is when,HUGE SPOILER ALERT!!!: When Sophie confesses her feelings to Keefe and they kiss in the romantic cave scene.this is my favorite scene because I’m #Team Foster-Keefe all the way at this point in the book and I think that a lot of people would agree with me on that.

To wrap this up, I recommend this book to kids ages 10-14 but I highly recommend it for any tweens out there who are looking for a good long term read. As for my rating, I give ten out of ten stars and I’ve already started counting down the days towards book 10 (even though it may be a year or two). Stay strong all of my Keeper and non- Keeper fans out there!!
