All your Twisted Secrets by Diana Urban

Review by Lauren

all your twisted secret bk cov

All Your Twisted Secrets by Diana Urban is a fast-paced thriller.  It starts out with six teenagers from the same school getting an invite to the annual scholarship dinner.  The main character, Amber, is obsessed with music.  Sasha is the queen bee of their school.  Robbie is dating Amber and is a stud baseball player.  Priya is Amber’s best friend.  Diego is the valedictorian, and Scott is the school’s biggest stoner.  Once they all arrive, they realize that this is not the scholarship dinner, and instead it was a ruse to get them all in the same room.  When they all sit down, the door immediately locks behind them, and in the center of the table is a syringe and a bomb with a note.  The bomb immediately starts to countdown for one hour, and the note reads that one person must die by the deadly liquid in the syringe, or they all die after the hour is up by the bomb.  Everyone starts to freak out, and tries to see if there is a way to break out of the room without anyone having to die. While this is happening, panic starts to set in, and the group starts to become desperate.  Each person throws out someone’s name, and how they have wronged them in the past and when this happens, everyone's secrets start to slowly come out.  Things that they did to each other get brought up, and everyone is trying to throw one another under the bus to make sure it is not them who dies.  No one is quite sure how this group makes sense, or who hates them enough to lock them in a room to pick one of them to die.  But the real question is will they choose someone to die, or will the bomb go off after the hour timer and kill them all?

I could not stop reading this book.  It was so well paced, and each chapter ended with cliffhangers, making me want to read the next.  The book is from Amber’s point of view, but it alternates between the present (one hour) and the past (starting from one year, one month ago).  This was a great way to hear the story, because while things are being brought up in the present, the next chapter would be a flashback to the past and explain how the event happened.  Each chapter gave you more insight to what was going on, and what secrets each character might be hiding.  I loved getting to know the characters' struggles throughout the book, and for some characters I started out not liking them, but realized that their actions had reason behind them and I ended up really liking the character development.

I am rating this book a 9/10.  There were so many plot twists that happened throughout the book, and the plot twist at the end made so much sense, but I never would have guessed it.  At the end of the book, it walks you through how everything happened and backtracks from after the event so there are no questions that were left unanswered.  I would totally recommend this book, especially to anyone who enjoys thrillers, mystery, and murder.
