The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams

Review by Abigail

the cheat sheet bk cov

In the book, The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams, it follows the love story of Bree Camden and Nathan Donelson. Their story started back in high school, when Bree fell for him after he tied her shoe on the track during a run. After that one run, they kept meeting up for runs, and soon got very close. However, after a tragic accident that caused Bree to lose both her dream school, and the sliver of a chance she had to become a professional ballerina due to her financial situation, she pushed Nathan away, out of her life. Fortunately, Nathan came back to her hometown, and in shock, saw Bree – many, many years later. Sooner or later, they became close again, even considering each other their “best friend” and started to run again with each other every Tuesday. However, what both Bree and Nathan don’t know is that the feelings they have for each other is mutual. Nathan is a NFL legend – he’s known everywhere. On top of that, he’s a model. Bree considers Nathan’s feelings to be completely platonic toward her, so in response, she keeps every exchange and glance toward Nathan completely platonic, not wanting to ruin their current status. Little does she know, Nathan’s feelings towards are not definitely not platonic. However, when one thing leads to another, and Bree drunk confesses her feelings about Nathan to a TMZ reporter, she becomes viral all over the internet. Bree and Nathan fake date for a while, but all the hidden feelings soon become revealed. They find out each other’s stories and problems, and go through it together with nothing blocking them in the way.

This book is treated like royalty when it comes to my love for it. This rom-com is gut-wrenching, screaming, throwing books across the room worthy. This read is super easy, and yet this book means so much. What I loved most about the book was the trope. I’m not one for fake dating, but I absolutely love best friends to lovers. When the author showcased how much they knew each other, I fell ten times more in love with the book. They go through such hard mental obstacles together, and it’s beautiful how much support radiates off of both of them. I love this book so much, and will love this book forever.

Whether you like this book or not is really solely based on personal preference. For example, the trope in this book is best friends to lovers like mentioned earlier. Many don’t like this trope, and although this book includes fake dating, fake dating is very shadowed over by the best friends to lovers trope. It’s also a very smooth, and easy read, so if you’re looking for something very mysterious, this book is not for you.

I would unquestionably recommend this book to any and every reader I meet. If the tropes and easy read don’t engage you into buying this book, I hope you give it a try no matter what. It’s a perfect read, and it's one of the books that will help take you out of a reading slump. Nathan and Bree are one of the cutest couples, and following their story is truly a ride. If there’s one thing you gathered, please let it buy to pick this up on your next book run.
